Gravesend Brooklyn

 

Gravesend is a neighborhood in the south-central section of the New York borough of Brooklyn. Gravesend was the only English chartered town in what became Kings County. It was founded by Lady Deborah Moody about 1643, she is the only known woman to have started a village in Colonial America. She was the first known female landowner in the New World.
